{"id":63043,"date":"2014-01-21T17:31:20","date_gmt":"2014-01-21T06:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fnarena.com\/index.php\/2014\/01\/21\/australian-stocks-what-happened-today-238\/"},"modified":"2014-01-21T17:31:20","modified_gmt":"2014-01-21T06:31:20","slug":"australian-stocks-what-happened-today-238","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.fnarena.com\/index.php\/2014\/01\/21\/australian-stocks-what-happened-today-238\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian Stocks: What Happened Today?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Ashley Jessen<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>ASX Top Gainers &amp; Losers plus Market Snapshot &#8211; 21 January 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>US Markets Closed for Market Luther King Jr Holiday, European markets slightly softer and over 16% of the US heavy weights by market cap will be reporting tonight in the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are traders talking about today?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S&amp;P\/ASX200 gained 36.5 points or 0.69% on volume of $2.9 billion, closing at 5331.5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>US Markets closed for Martin Luther King Jr Holiday.<\/li>\n<li>All eyes are on the CPI data due out tomorrow.<\/li>\n<li>Aussie Dollar has managed to climb back above the 88 cent level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Economic news<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence numbers were released showing a fall of 1.2 points to 116.3, which is the lowest level since January 2009.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Looking over the charts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Market is looking good to close above the 5325 immediate resistance.<\/li>\n<li>Despite an early intraday fall our market climbed strongly after midday to close near the highs.<\/li>\n<li>Once a close above 5325 is established it would be good to see the market testing and breaking through the 5350-5360 level.<\/li>\n<li>Stochastics continues to push higher showing momentum to the upside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ASX top 200 stock analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>15% of stocks are showing oversold levels, 26% are showing overbought levels and 63% of stocks are currently above their long term moving average as of close of trading today.
